Black/Davy-An Interview with the leader of the Northumbria Party

Hey Guys, quick announcement, last week, this blog reached 1000 hits! to commemorate a list of all this blogs articles have been published here (1000 hits and counting! A round up!)  so, have a look and read something that catches your attention, thanks for the support!

Now for the ten questions with the Northumbrian Party..

1. What are your party's 3 main policies?

To sum it up Campaigning for a Northumbrian Assembly, to get a fair share of funding from Westminster, and to be proud of and support our Northumbrian Heritage.

2. Should smaller parties have a "vision" or a manifesto?

I can't speak for other smaller parties, but the Northumbria Party has a clear vision. Of a strong and influential Northumbrian Assembly governing for the interests of the people here. A government which addresses and focuses on the needs of Northumbrians and our economy and builds a brighter future the next generation of Northumbrians.

3. Should we have a referendum on the EU, if yes, when?

Of course we should have a referendum on the EU the British Public should be allowed a say on whether they wish to remain part of the EU or not. The referendum should be held at the time of the next European or General election to allow as many people as possible to vote and reduce the costs of holding one.

4.What is you're party's "route" into mainstream politics (e.g. local elections, Euros...)

Our party will build up support through local communities. We will ensure our members continue to volunteer and are heavily involved within community activity. Our first aim will be local elections where we hope to campaign and build a base. Additionally We will aim to compete in general elections while building a cross-party consensus for a 'Movement for Northumbrian Devolution' Working with other small regional parties to build a political movement that all Northumbrians can side with and support. A strong local support base is building from which we hope to launch others across Northumbria. The Northumbria Party would not exist if current London based political parties paid attention to the needs of our region.

5. Would you say you are on the left, the right, the center or another third way?

Neither left wing or right wing. We are just Northumbrians hoping to stand up for our communities and bring an end to London's dominance of our region. We want to create a brighter future for Northumbria and represent a positive vision as to how we can show our talents to the world.

6. What is you’re policy on ‘votes at 16‘?

We support it, all 16s should be allowed to vote in all elections. At 18 people are moving to university, moving home everyone aged 16 is still in education and people have more time to focus on education. However, it should come hand in hand with comprehensive political education and a trial allowing 16 year olds to vote in local elections to view the full effects of such a move.

7. What is you’re own personal view on ‘benefit tourism’?

It is an abuse of the system hard pressed British taxpayers have been paid into for citizens of other countries to come here and claim. It should be discouraged.

8. Under you’re leadership, where do you see the party in a year’s time?

The party was launched as a concept on the 1st January 2011 to a chorus of criticism. Yet we have went from strength to strength. Our membership base has expanded rapidly, and we are building connections across the region. In a years time we hope to have quadrupled our membership, to have developed the party infrastructure to allow for more efficient administration, to have built up support among voluntary groups across Northumbria. In a years time this party will be gearing up for the May 2013 Northumberland council elections where we hope to contest 1/3rd of seats on the unitary authority while continuing to build and unify smaller parties across the region.

9. Why should people join your party?

A lot of new smaller parties claim they offer something different but don't. The Northumbria Party offers a clear consise vision of the North East's future. We are (I don't know this, but would put money on it) the political party with the youngest average age of membership, our members have already been involved in massive campaigns and changes already involving allocating youth funds, securing a Northumbrian youth olympics in 2012.

We as a party do not believe in party politics. We want to build a consensus and work for our community. If you believe the North East deserves better, and want to help within communities then join us. If you want to see real change and a group of hard working, motivated individuals join us, if you want to help us deliver better for our communities then join us.
Plus the membership fee isn't that much either!

10. Which one thing would you change about the british political system?

Create a Northumbrian Parliament with the powers to make serious decisions about the North East and end Westminster failed micromanagement of the Northumbria.
